Mangalore: CPI (M) Activists Condemn Lathi Charge During Udupi Protest

Mangalore, Dec 28: The CPI (M) activists on Friday December 28 condemned the lathi charge on their members near Udupi Shree Krishna temple who were protesting against ‘Made Snana’ and discrimination in serving food. A protest was staged in this regard in front of district commissioner’s office here.

Addressing the protest, P Madhava asked the government and the concerned officials to soon stop the practice of Made Snana and criticized the police for resorting to lathi charge on CPI (M) memberss who were protesting peacefully.

CPI (M) state secretariat member K R Shriyan strongly criticized the ritual of Made Snana and lathi charge on the CPI (M) members and asked them to stop the superstitious practice. He said that Pejawar Swamiji who has control over performing Made Snana thinks only about the people of higher caste neglecting the lower caste. Instead of Made Snana, a new practice of Ede Snana has been suggested by him, he added.

Speaking to Daijiworld Sunil Kumar Bajal said that 186 civil cases have been booked against the activists for protesting against the Made Snana ritual in Udupi.

He also said that CPI (M) has been protesting against the ritual from past one year. The CPI (M) had launched a protest in this regard on December 21 at Kukke Subramanya Temple and flagged off its rally from Mangalore to Udupi on December 24 which culminated on Thursday December 27. The members had planned for a peaceful protest to condemn Made Snana, he added.

Vasanth Acharya, Suraj Bajal, C T Suvarna, Santhosh Kumar among others were present.
