Mangalore, Jan 9: A major tragedy was averted at Kudkorigudda near Kankanady here on Wednesday January 9 at around 3:30 pm, when a bus just missed hitting a car and instead rammed into an electric pole.
A KSRTC bus returning to city from Mani, almost packed with passengers, was nearing Kudkorigudda. At the same time, a Ford Ikon car was on its way towards the main road from a lane on the left.
The car driver, however, was reportedly busy talking on his mobile phone and did not notice the bus heading towards him. Luckily for him, the bus driver noticed the car and in the nick of time veered to his right to avoid collision.
However, while avoiding collision with the car, the bus rammed into an electric pole.
The car driver, perhaps realizing his fault and in a state of panic, reversed his car and fled the scene.
Nevertheless, the determined bus driver and the public, who were firm on their stand that it was the car driver's mistake, went in search of him. Some of the passengers joined in the hunt for the missing car and its driver.
They were finally successful in tracing him, and found that he had moved his car to a parking lot of an unknown apartment in a bid to escape.
But the most amusing part was yet to come.
On enquiring, the car driver blatantly denied his involvement and insisted that he was not even at the scene of the accident, and that he was totally unaware of what had happened! Tension prevailed for a few minutes as there was a verbal fight between the car driver and the others. His car's number was noted down for further legal procedures. The matter cooled down after the intervention of police.
The bus was finally taken to the east traffic police station, Kadri, and further investigations are on.

Wed, Jan 09 2013Our Mangalore police seem to be sleeping when they see people on mobile phones while driving. Kankanady , Hampanakatta,Bendore, and Kadri area are area's to be tracked by police and fined, unfortunately even police officers seem to be on mobile phones while driving. If there is plastic bag campaign why not mobile phone use while driving campaign

Wed, Jan 09 2013Really we have to appreciate the presence of Bus Driver. Culprit should be punished. Govt., should very strictly ban using mobiles in hand while driving. These drivers with mobile in hand are becoming nuisance to everyone on road.

Wed, Jan 09 2013Though I appreciate the work of the bus driver, this is the first time I am hearing of a BUS DRIVER getting upset about poor driving...Just imagine the condition of the passengers who travel in the city buses who continuously pray till they reach the destination.

Wed, Jan 09 2013This is another sickness leading to accidents.Drivers of 2 wheelers or 4 wheelers attending phone calls while driving should be penalized.
