Mangalore, Feb 11: A person from Kochi, Kerala, who had gone missing from within the limits of Barke police station in the city on February 5, lost his life after being crushed under the wheels of a train near Manjeshwar, it is learnt.

On a complaint filed by the concerned, the police had registered a missing case on Saturday February 9 about Mithun Raj, who was working as a welding contractor for Star Shipyard here. The newspapers had carried the story about the missing person, and sought help from the people to find him out, duly providing the identity particulars.

Seeing the reports, some persons from Manjeshwar, Kerala, called up Barke police station and told them about the recovery of the body of a person with similar features that had been crushed by a train on February at Kanvateertha on February 5. The police learnt that the Kerala police, after contacting Ullal and Konaje police stations in a bid to establish the body’s identity, had cremated it, after failing to get any clues.

The parents of Mithun, who were taken to Manjeshwar police station, identified the clothes of their son. Mithun had told his employer on February 5 that he would be back after visiting his native place. The parents had sounded the employer of their son about the fact that he had not reached home. On the basis of this information, a missing complaint had been registered at Barke police station.

Manjeshwar police are investigating.
