Mangalore: DC warns of stringent action against election code violators

Mangalore, Mar 2: “Candidates and political parties should strictly follow the election code of conduct. Candidates who compete for the MCC election can spend a maximum amount of Rs 3 lac. The candidates who contest for town panchayat and municipality can spend a maximum of Rs 1.5 lac and Rs 1 lac respectively for canvassing purposes in their respective wards,” said DC N Prakash addressing the press meet held at DC office on Friday March 1.

He was addressing the press about the code and conduct implemented ahead of the elections in the district. “The registration numbers of vehicles used in election campaigns should be lodged with the election officer of the particular area and the permission letter should be pasted on the vehicles during the period,” added the DC.

“Political parties can use loud speakers from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm and campaigning should end 24 hours before the day of the election. On the day of the election no political parties can have their camp within a distance of 100 meters from the election center and there should be no banners, pamphlets, or symbols. They should not distribute food to the voters and camps should not be crowded,” he further added.

“Only a maximum of five vehicles per candidate or agent can be used with the permission of election officer, but the vehicles should not be used to ferry voters to poll centers. If this is done, the vehicles will be confiscated and a criminal case will be filed against the concerned person,” said Prakash.

The DC also added that if any political parties or candidates are found violating the law, stringent action will be taken against them.
