Mangalore, Mar 15: M Sadashiva Bhandary (72), who had served as the first mayor of the local city corporation, breathed his last at a private hospital in the city on Thursday March 14. He has left behind wife and two sons.
Bhandary, who had been chosen as the first mayor of the city corporation after the municipality here was granted the status of city corporation in 1984-85, also had served as mayor during the first year of the second term of the corporation in 1990-91.
Bhandary, who owned Pratap Stores in Urwa Store area of the city, also functioned as a newspaper distributor since long.
Various dignitaries including union minister, M Veerappa Moily, deputy speaker of Karnataka assembly, N Yogish Bhat, Oscar Fernandes, B Janardhan Poojary, J Krishna Palemar, former city mayor, M Shashidhar Hegde, various city corporators and others have condoled Bhandary’s demise.
