Mangalore, Mar 20: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, C T Ravi, expressed unhappiness at the fact that the state government’s ambitious scheme of providing houses to the weaker sections has not met the desired results in the district. He noted that the performance under housing schemes has been much below the targeted level.

The minister was reviewing progress under various schemes at the quarterly progress review meet of Karnataka Development Programmes held in the city on Monday March 18. He observed that the schemes of the government that are aimed at benefitting the poor classes need to be implemented with earnestness. He called upon the officials concerned to do their best to achieve the targets, besides asking the tahsildars to pay attention to the task of identifying land for allotting sites under housing schemes of the government.

“The roads should be made motorable before the monsoons begin. The task of providing drinking water should be given priority. Wherever tube wells cannot be sunk, alternative arrangements should be made. Applications received under schemes like old age pension, widow pension, etc should be handled immediately,” he instructed.

At the end of the meeting, however, Ravi appeared to have calmed down a bit. He said wherever he has taken the officials to task, he took the step to ensure administrative efficiency, and that he never harbours any individual enmity with any of the officials. MLA, U T Khader, MLC, Mnoappa Bhandary, and zilla panchayat member, Satish Kumpala, actively participated in the deliberations.

Zilla panchayat president, Koragappa Naik, vice president, Ritesh Shetty, deputy commissioner of the district, N Prakash, zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Dr K N Vijay Prakash, standing committee chairpersons, Asha Thimmappa Gowda, and Jayashree, were present.
