Copy of `Sgt. Pepper' signed by Beatles auctioned

Washington, Apr 2 (IANS/EFE): A copy of the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album signed by the four members of the Beatles sold at auction in the US for a record $290,500, The Hollywood Reporter said.

An anonymous buyer from the Midwest made the winning bid for the album Saturday in Dallas.

Experts estimated before the auction that the album might bring in $30,000.

It is believed that Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Star signed the album cover sometime in June 1967, when "Sgt. Pepper" was released.

The previous record for a signed Beatles album was the $150,000 paid for a copy of "Meet The Beatles".
