Mangalore: Perne gas tanker tragedy claims 11th victim

Mangalore, Apr 24: With the death of Hajeema (80) from Perne, who was being treated in a city-based hospital after suffering critical injuries in the gas tanker tragedy which occurred at Perne on April 9, the death toll in the incident has risen to 11.

Hajeema breathed her last on Tuesday April 23.

Hajeema and her daughter-in-law, Safiya, who were inside their house when the tanker overturned and spread flames up to a diameter of 300 metres around the accident spot, had suffered burns and were rushed to the city for treatment.

Safiya is recovering in the hospital.

The accident had taken away six lives on the spot, while two more died the same day in the hospital, and two others breathed their last in hospitals in the following days, after attempts to save them failed.
