Mumbai, Jan 2: The Nehru Nagar police have arrested a police sub-inspector (PSI) after his wife was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Sable Nagar in Kurla in the wee hours of Sunday.

“There are marks of strangulation around her neck,” a police official at the Nehru Nagar police station said.

The police got information of an unidentified body lying in Sable Nagar around 4 am on Sunday. Investigations revealed that the deceased was Alka Vijay Kamble, wife of Vijay Babu Kamble, who is posted at the Dharavi police station.

Sources said Vijay, a resident of Jagruti Nagar, Kurla (E), suspected his wife’s fidelity. Alka was staying with her parents for the past few months, as Vijay was training in Nasik. He had come back from Nasik after completing the training at the police academy and was to join duty on Sunday. On Saturday, Vijay had gone to his in-laws’ place to take part in a pooja to celebrate his promotion, they added.

Vijay’s mother Tarabai said, “Vijay is a balanced person and responsible in whatever he does. He would never do such an act.”

Vijay had joined the police six years back. He was recently promoted as PSI, sources added. 
The investigating officer police inspector Chavhan could not be contacted.
