Moodbidri, Jan 5: The classical and folk dances presented by dance troupes from Assam, West Bengal and Ahmedabad on Tuesday, the first day of Alva's Virasat'06 at Shobavana, Mijar, left the audience spellbound.

Benibas and troupe comprising 22 folk artistes from Purulia in West Bengal was the first team to present a folk dance. They presented the episode Mahishasura Mardini in Purulia Chavo dance form. The dance form succeeded in attracting the attention of the people present, with rhythmic steps, beautiful dance movements and attractive costumes.

Satriya, a classical dance form presented by 22 artistes led by Guru Jatin Goswami from Assam was the second programme to be presented. This dance, with the divine play of Lord Krishna as the main theme, mainly depicted Raas. A group by 16 artistes from Ahmedabad which aimed at entertaining the public, was staged as the last programme of the evening.

Trumpets and horns (kombu and kahale), the traditional instruments of Dakshina Kannada were blown before the start of the cultural programme. The energetic playing of chende coupled with rhythmic steps by Alingal Musical Association, Nileshwar kept people on their toes.

More than 50 foreigners from Germany, France, USA and other countries have arrived at the cultural extravaganza. As more than 10,000 people have been participating in the programme everyday, the programme is also flashed on giant screens to enable people to have a clear view of the goings-on.
