Bangalore, Jan 18: The officials of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) raided packaged drinking water manufacturing units in Albhadi village in Udupi district and Sai Nadar Road in Hubli and seized bottled water spuriously marked with ISI mark.

The officials raided Veekay industries in Albhadi which was selling bottled water under the brand name “Brahmi” and Kamal Aqua Minerals in Hubli which was selling under the names of “Quench” and “Nice”.

They were using the ISI mark without taking valid licence from BIS, said P Sengupta, spokesman of BIS. Action is being initiated against the firms for violating Section 11 of the BIS Act 1986 which is punishable by imprisonment up to one year or fine up to Rs 50,000 or both, said Sengupta.

The BIS spokesman has appealed to the public to give information about any misuse of ISI mark. Email : bnbo@bis.org.in
