Abu Dhabi, Jan 21:  A women's throwball tournament was organized in memory of the late Koosamma Shambu Shetty on Friday, January 20 in the Indian High school pemises, Abu Dhabi.



Son of the late Koosamma Shetty and renowned NRI entrepreneur B R Shetty and his wife Chandrakala Shetty inaugurated the event in the presence of prominent personalities, among others, like Leo Ridrigues, Sudhir Kumar Shetty, Shekar Shetty, V K Kaul and V K Mathew.



Six well-known teams from all over the UAE participated in the tournament. The teams were Bunts Abu Dhabi, Bunts Dubai, Mangalore Konkans, Jashan Dubai, KCO Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and Sharjah Stars.

Semifinals were played between Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and Jashan Dubai, and Bunts Dubai and KCO Abu Dhabi.



Bunts Dubai and Jashan Dubai entered the finas by displaying some superb quality play throughout the tournament.

Jashan Dubai emerged winners after beating Bunts Dubai by 15-4, 11-15, 15-3.



Kaveri Krishnamoorthy of Jashan was adjudged 'Best Defence Player', Shymala Poojary of Jashan the 'Best All-rounder', Shakeela Shetty of Bunts Dubai the 'Best Service' and Shashi Shetty of Bunts Dubai the 'Best Striker'.

Sarvothama Shetty compered the entire event.

B R Shetty and his wife distributed the prizes to the winners.
