Indian-American doctors to hold healthcare meet in Ahmedabad


Chicago, Jul 30 (IANS): An influential body of Indian-American physicians plans to hold a healthcare summit aimed at bringing innovative, efficient and cost effective world-class healthcare solutions India in Ahmedabad in January next year.

The 8th annual Global Healthcare Summit (GHS) 2014, organized by the Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), will have participation from some of the world's most well known physicians and industry leaders.

"This innovative Summit is aimed at advancing the accessibility, affordability and the quality of world-class healthcare to the people of India," AAPI president Jayesh Shah, who has just returned from India after a series of planning sessions, announced.

"Among other areas, the Summit will focus on prevention, diagnosis, treatment options and share ways to truly improve healthcare transcending global boundaries," he said.

The Summit will be held at the prestigious Gujarat Convention Centre, Ahmedabad, from Jan 3 to 5 in collaboration with the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) and Indian Medical Association (IMA), the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs & Ministry of Health, Shah said.

"AAPI USA has been engaged in harnessing the power of Indian diaspora to bring the most innovative, efficient, cost effective healthcare solutions to India," Shah said.

"With the changing trends and statistics in healthcare both in India and US, we are refocusing our mission and vision of GHS2014. AAPI would like to make a positive and meaningful impact on the healthcare in India," he added.

During their India visit Shah, Dr. Ravi Jahagirdar, president-elect of AAPI and Anwar Feroz, AAPI's honorary advisor, met more than 40 key stake holders, partners and logistics teams to ensure the success of GHS 2014.

AAPI is the largest ethnic medical organization in the US representing more than 60,000 physicians and about 15,000 medical students/residents of Indian heritage in the country
