Bangalore, Jan 27: Two sisters, both London-based doctors, were killed and three were injured when the car in which they were travelling rammed a lorry on Hebbal Ring Road on Thursday.

The police said the marriage of one of the two sisters was scheduled for February 18.

The names of the two sisters were given as Nivedita (26) and Mangala (24), daughters of B.S. Sakenahalli who runs a nursing home at Kalyan Nagar here.

The police said Dr. Nivedita and Dr. Mangala had come to the city from London for the former's marriage.

Dr. Sakenahalli and his three daughters and the groom's father, Nageshwarappa, were returning in the car to the city after distributing marriage invitation cards in Davangere.

Around 3.30 p.m., Nageshwarappa, who was driving the car, rammed the lorry that was parked in the middle of the road.

While Dr. Nivedita and Dr. Mangala were killed on the spot, the sister, Thrupti (22), Dr. Sakenahalli and Nageshwarappa suffered serious injuries. They have been admitted in a hospital. The Hebbal Traffic Police have registered a case. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic West) Basavaraj Y. Malaghatti, who visited the spot, told The Hindu that two truck drivers had parked their vehicles in the middle of the roads following a minor accident and were quarrelling with each other.
