M'lore: Workshop on prevention of heart attack

Mangalore, Aug 6: A workshop on prevention of heart disease was held here under the aegis of Indian Medical Association.

Dr. Jayaprakash S. of the Jayadev Hospital, who spoke on the occasion, said that heart attack can be prevented by effective treatment of illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure.   Uncontrolled high blood pressure and diabetes increase the threat of cardiac failure, he said.

Besides medication, changes in lifestyle, maintenance of ideal body weight, staying away from smoking and alcohol helps a person to remain healthy, he said.

Dr. Narasimha Pai, presided over the programme.  Dr Manjunath Shenoy, president of the Indian Medical Association, Mangalore unit, welcomed the gathering.  Dr. Veena Bhagavan conducted the programme.  Manoj Dube thanked.
