Mangalore, Feb 1: To keep the Pre-University colleges away from bureaucratic strings and give the freedom to the teachers to frame the classroom content, autonomy must be given to PU colleges, demanded Federation of University Commerce Teachers Association president and Dean of the commerce department of St Aloysius College Prof A Narahari.

The formation of the syllabus and decisions on classroom content need to be taken by teachers, as they need to have academic freedom said Narahari who was speaking after inaugurating the DK Pre-University Commerce Lecturers Association at Canara PU College Auditorium on Tuesday, January 31.

It is a known fact that social and economic development of the nation is possible only through education, however unifying the teaching community through formation of association is also essential for increasing the level of confidence among the teachers," he said. The teachers associations must not confine themselves only to subject matters or examinations but must also strive to meet the expectations of the management, students, parents and the society, advised Prof Narahari.

District Pre-University education department deputy director Sheelavati presided. Canara PU College principal Gopal Nayak, Badriya College principal N Ismail and association joint secretary Kiran K were present.
