Karkala: Illegal transport of logs – Wood, vehicle seized

Karkala, Aug 11: The forest department has solved instances of robbery of wooden logs from Neerebailur government land here.

The culprits used to cut valuable trees in the land and transport them to the saw mills.

In one such instance of robbery, the robbers were transporting 407 wooden logs after cutting them, when the wheels of their vehicle got stuck in the slush on Friday August 9 night.

The locals of Neerebailur vicinity have informed to this newspaper that a large amount of wood gets looted from the land. 

The seizure was directed by Karkal area forest officer K V Subrahmanya Rao and assisted by forest officers Ganesh, Krishnappa, Ananda and Jeep driver Anwar.

The value of seized wood is said to be Rs 50,000 and that of the seized vehicle Rs 4,00,000. The robbers who were involved in the act have escaped and a hunt is on for them.

    My ancestral house is in Bailur and today when i received information about tree cutting in that area. I personally called Mr. Subramanya Rao and gave him this information. I trust that he actions quickly and book the culprits.

    Based on the information i had, i had personally called Mr. Subramanya Rao several times this week and was continuously following up with him and wanted to have an on the action taken by him. Regrettably Mr. Rao made this enviornmental issue a non issue and said he had sent the squad but there was nothing serious and it was just a old tree which was cut and the squad have penalised some person a paltry fine of Rs. 500.. intially he even refused to make note of my complaint saying that since its a patta land.. what can he do about it? the entire village knows that there are tree cutting happening in bailur on a rampant scale and our Mr. Rao chooses to close his eyes.. which leaves much more to be desired from a forest office. From what i ustand its a huge nexus and everytime there is a complaint being made.. the culprits get away easily by showing a old tree to the squad... i feel completely helpless now and would request the reporters of Daiji World to take this issue seriously.

    Goverement should suspend these forest officers & whole his team immediately and investigate this matter in an higher level

    Couldnt agree more... People like Mr. Rao who take things lightly should be suspended and replaced with somebody who is honest... God save this country from such officers.

    407 wooden logs!!!?
    It's a huge. Where were forest department during trees cutting time? Are they sleeping at home? I strongly suspect involvement of some forest officers in this matter.

    Once in five hundredth time caught that too because people informed the News paper other wise forest officer would have helped the truck driver to move the vehicle to safety.
    What kind of forest officer\staff Govt. has if people have to inform of the robbery? 407 logs say at least 200 trees cut and do you think they can do it without the forest officer\staff being involved?
    And the activists are making big hue and cry if one tree is cut somewhere in the city.
    Please go to this place NOW and take action against the forest officer to save at least 200 trees.
