Kundapur, Aug 13: Kundapur police on Monday August 12 arrested an auto driver for robbing a gold chain from a passenger.

The accused auto driver has been identified as Pradeep, a resident of Hanglur.

It is said that on Sunday evening a passenger, identified as Kodi resident Dennis, climbed into Pradeep's auto. Pradeep got friendly with Dennis and took him on a joy ride. The two ended up in a bar at Kundapur and even attended an event in which they danced in a drunken stupor.

While leaving Dennis back at his house, Pradeep allegedly snatched away his gold chain. Dennis who realized this the next morning filed a complaint with the police.

The Kundapur crime branch arrested Pradeep who reportedly admitted his guilt. He told the police that he had dropped the chain by the side of the road, but it was not to be found even after a thorough search by the police as well as Pradeep himself.

It is said that Dennis is slightly mentally ill and was easily trapped by Pradeep.

Further investigations are on.
