Mangalore Feb 5: Quite contrary to the recent observation that the district police are civilized the Saturday’s episode has stunned many of those who carried a good image about the police.

In a rare incident in the district, a police inspector pointed his service revolver and assaulted a head constable injuring him seriously inside the police station on Saturday night.

This dramatic episode took place at the Kadri police station, where Kadri police inspector Basheer Ahmed reportedly assaulted head constable Karunakar over inspection of a car theft case reported in January. While one version of the story states that the inspector was enraged when HC Karunakar told that the case was in progress, sources in the police station have revealed that the inspector assaulted the head constable with a chair, which eventually broke, causing grievous injuries.

Later, he removed his service revolver from the holster. The other constables, however, prevented the inspector. A broken chair, broken spectacles, strewn files and bloodstains were found in the station.

Superintendent of Police B Dayananda, who rushed to the station immediately, said that a criminal case has been registered against the Inspector in Urwa police station. The injured Karunakar has been admitted to a hospital.
