Bangalore, Feb 8: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday moved the motion of confidence in the Legislative Assembly.
This motion is in keeping with a directive by Governor T N Chaturvedi to him on January 28, to prove his majority within eight days of assuming office.
Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party legislature party has already claimed that the motion would be supported by at least 130 to 135 legislators.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister N Dharam Singh was recognised as the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly by the Speaker Krishna Wednesday. The Speaker made the announcement as the House met to take up the trust vote sought by the BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition, following the resignation of the Congress-led government in the wake of withdrawal of support by Kumarswamy-led JDS MLAs.
