Jagotik Konknni Songhotton holds 2nd global general assembly

Mangalore, Aug 23: The second global general assembly of Jagotik Konknni Songhotton, was held recently at Kalaangann, Mangalore.

This global assembly was attended by 65 delegates from Mumbai, Goa, Kerala, Sindhudurg, Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Uttara Kannada, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and UAE.



 

Stany Alvares, president of Mandd Sobhann welcomed the Assembly. JKS president,
Tomazinho Cardozo, moderated the proceedings of the Global Assembly. Eric Ozario, secretary general, presented the Biennial Report of JKS. The report was discussed and passed.

The audited statement of accounts of JKS for the past two years, was presented before the Assembly, by the Treasurer, Roy Castelino, which was passed unanimously

After this, amendments to the constitution of JKS, the plan of action and budget for the next two years were proposed, discussed and passed. This was followed by the Election of the next Executive Committee for the term Aug. 20, 2013 to Aug. 20, 2015. Louis Pinto conducted the elections. S K K Utharan, vice president (India), proposed the vote of thanks.

The new executive committee met and elected the office bearers of JKS for the next term. The office bearers of Jagotik Konknni Songhotton for the term Aug. 20, 2013 to Aug. 20, 2015 are as follows –

1. President - Tomazinho Cardozo, Omor Prokaxon, Goa.
2. Secretary General - Eric Ozario, Mandd Sobhann, Mangalore.
3. Treasurer - Roy Castelino, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, Mangalore.
4. Vice President (Other Countries) - Dr Austin D’souza Prabhu, Kala Sampat, U.S.A..
5. Vice President (Gulf) - Pascal B. Pinto, Queen of Arabia Konkani Community Ahmadi, Kuwait.
6. Vice President (India) - K. K. Utharan, Konkani Education Society, Kerala.
7. Associate Secretary - Lawrence D’Souza Kamani, Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra.

After lunch, at 2 in the afternoon, there was an oath-taking ceremony by the newly elected Executive Committee.

After the global assembly, there was a grand celebration of the 21st ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ (World Konkani Recognition Day).

 Irene Rebello, secretary of Mandd Sobhann, spoke about the situation of Konkani in today’s world and how we could save our mother-tongue from dying.

The crowd was entertained and enlightened about their duty towards Konkani by elaborating the ‘10 Commandments of Konkani’, through music and commentary in the ‘Konknni Niyall’ programme, led by Shri Eric Ozario and supported by his Mandd Sobhann team.

The last and most attractive part of the celebrations, was a significant act by Kalakul Theatre Repertory & Nach Sobhann titled ‘Ami Rong Konknnechem’ (We are the colours of Konkani). This act was also a demonstration of the basic principles of Jagotik Konknni Songhotton – ‘Respecting every Variety and Seeking Unity in Diversity’.
