Kundapur, Aug 29: "It is the duty of every Indian to remember Dhyan Singh, who made hockey popular in the world. It is unfortunate that even though, the government has specified Aug 29 for the commemoration, no educational institution or sports sector remembers him," said Kundapur municipality member and Kundapur Friends Volleyball club president Rajesh Kaveri.

He was speaking expressing his intent at the National Sports Day programme held at St Mary’s School under the aegis of Kundapur Holy Rosary Church Educational Institute, Kundapur Friends Volleyball club, Rotary club, Koteshwar and Beauty queen, Kundapur.

The common feeling that marks are the only criteria in education, should be changed and people should realize that sports too have a future. Students need suitable training in this regard, he said.

Koteshwar Rotary club president Prabhakar Kumbhashi spoke and said that rural sports are going to the background and government should support for their revival. Media should identify the talents among rural people and help to attract the attention of the government towards them.

Several school children who have participated and excelled in sports activities were felicitated on the occasion.

Anil D’ Souza, head of the institute, presided over the programme. Koteshwar Rotary club president Prabhakar B Kumbhashi and Beauty queen owner Hussain Hykadi were present.

School headmistress Joylin welcomed. Teacher Neetha D’Souza thanked. Physical education teacher Chandrashekar Beejadi conducted the programme.

I am delighted to hear St.Mary's School celebrated National Sports day. Congratulations. After my initial schooling at Badakere, Hanglur, I joined St.Mary's School and then the Board High School for my SSLC. By reading this news I remembered and cherished my good old days at St. Mary's. LONG LIVE ST' MARY'S SCHOOL.
