Udupi, Sep 1: Minister for health and family welfare U T Khadar on Saturday August 31 paid a surprise visit to Udupi Ajjarkad district hospital and conducted inspection.
Addressing reporters after the visit, he said that special attention will be given to malnourished children in the state.
He added that measures in this regard are under way under women and children welfare department and the department of health, and a meeting will be held once a month under the leadership of deputy commissioner.
Treatment will be given in Bangalore rehabilitation center if required, he said.
“The district hospital will be upgraded. Decision regarding increasing the number of beds is not taken so far. Permission for appointment of new staff will also be granted,” he added.
U T Khadar during his visit asked the deputy commissioner to choose land to set up trauma center in Kaup or Padubidri.
Presently, the hospital can conduct dialysis for eight patients. The minister said that this number should be increased and asked the officials concerned to give importance to cleanliness and hygiene. Wheel chairs and stretchers should be provided to patients and equipment should be used to the maximum, he added.
Those who do not take up rural service after medical studies will be fined, and this fine amount has been increased. Last year the fine collected amounted to Rs 9 crore, he said.
MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, district surgeon Dr Madhusudan Nayak, district health officer Dr Ramachandra Byari among others were present.
