Mangalore, Feb 14: A study undertaken by the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fishery Sciences University on the pattern of fish breeding and various zones, has enough data to recommend fishing holidays that can be beneficial to the fishing industry. This was revealed by vice-chancellor of the University R N Srinivas Gowda to reporters on Monday.
Fishing holidays should be staggered which will help to take up different kind of fishing in different periods during the fishing season.
The study has also stated the need to trace and assess fish stock electronically and has proposed to make it mandatory. With this technique, catching of young fish can be avoided and will improve the availability of fish throughout the season, Gowda said.
The recommendations will be sent to the Government at the earliest, he added.
