Mangalore, Feb 18: All eyes, which were once on the leaking Tumbe dam have now shifted to the neighbourhood.

A surprise inspection by Mangalore City Corporation mayor K Ashraf in City on Friday brought to light the rampant illegal water connections in the City. Over 100 illegal water connections were identified and disconnected by the inspection team.

The inspection was conducted based on the report submitted by the officers on the illegal water connections.

Later speaking to the press, Ashraf said that strict directives have been given to the officers to take stringent action against the erring persons within three days.

An insight into several illegal water connections to the 18 MGD water pipe has also been obtained, he said, adding that most of the illegal connections are outside the Corporation's limits.

The inspection team has also plans to visit restaurants and hospitals within its jurisdiction and check the state of water connections. However this will be done by this month end. During these inspections the team will look for violation of norms in water connection, he said.

Ashraf also warned the plumbers not to involve in providing illegal water connections.
