Beltangady, Feb 21: Eight persons were injured, one shop and a car were damaged during a group clash that took place between two groups belonging to two different communities at Ujire near here on Monday February 20 night.

The group clash is said to have started over an old issue in which a fight had taken place between to rickshaw drivers on Sunday February19. But this issue was sorted out with the police intervention.

But the fight broke out again on Monday night when a few persons of a community went to a restaurant at Ujire where persons from another community reported provoked them.  As the fight turned violent, a few persons pelted stones at the hotel.  As this was taking place yet another group led by Bajrang Dal Puttur zone convener Mahesh Shetty Timrodi damaged an STD booth belonging to Hameed and a car owned by Ahmed Bava.  The group also pelted stones at one Shameer's house.

As a result, 8 persons, Jameel, Sudhakar, Harish, Bhaskar, Ashraf, Ismail, Imran and Nazeer have been injured and admitted to a private hospital.

District SP B Dayanand, Puttur ASP Dr Subrahmaneshwar Rao, circle inspector Gangi Reddy and other top police officials visited the place.
