Germany, Sep 26: September 21 marked the 10th year celebration of the Monthi Fest in Germany by the Konkani Association of Germany.
Another special feature of this day was that the association was formally registered that morning and one generation of office-bearers welcomed a new generation of office-bearers. This beautiful idea of bringing the Konkani speaking together was conceived 10 years ago by Fr Robert Rego and assisted by equally dynamic individuals both lay and religious.
This year’s function was once again true to the association’s motto 'Binding people together with love'. Mother Mary’s birthday was celebrated not just by those of us with a common language, but also those who were drawn by our Lady’s love. The Konkani, German and Italian speaking communities bound together with love celebrated in a traditional Mangalorean style.
All gathered together before the statue of Mary in front of the church in Marienheide, Germany offering her fresh flowers and singing praises in Konkani. Our Mother was brought into the church in a procession and kept before the Eucharistic altar. The mass concelebrated by four priests after which followed an afternoon of ‘thank you’s and welcomes’, food and drink, games and dance.
A souvenir to mark the 10th year anniversary was also released by Fr Rego and distributed to all present. As a token of appreciation for their hardwork Fr Rego thanked and felicitated all those who had been actively involved in different ways to make the celebrations possible and successful during the last 10 years.
