UP transfers top cop

Lucknow, Sep 26 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh government Thursday transferred a top-ranked police officer who had earlier complained about political interference.

Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Arun Kumar has been replaced by Additional Director General of Police, Railways, Mukul Goyal. Kumar has been attached to the director general of police (DGP) headquarter.

Arun Kumar had asked the state government to relieve him for a central deputation a month back.

The officer had earlier been critical of political interference in the functioning of police.

Arun Kumar was credited with ensuring smooth and incident-free passage of the Maha Kumbh Mela earlier this year in Allahabad and for cracking a number of sensational cases.
