China court upholds death for man in rape-murder case

Beijing, Sep 27 (IANS): A court in China Friday upheld the death sentence awarded to a man convicted for raping three women and murdering two of them.

Wang Shujin earlier claimed he had raped and killed another woman in 1994 in Shijiazhuang, capital of Hebei province, but another man was executed for that murder case 18 years ago, reported Xinhua.

The Hebei Provincial People's high court rejected his claim.

Wang was sentenced to death in March 2007 for the rape and murder of other women, but he appealed for mercy arguing that his confession in the Shijiazhuang case, formally unknown to the police, should have earned him less severe penalty.
