Panaji, Mar 6: Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao of Goa and Daman, while condemning the violence in the Sanvordem town, has said that the violence was engineered by vested political interests whose main agenda seems to be to divide to rule
"The only explanation one finds for the first provocation and the ensuing riots in that town is that they appear to be engineered by vested political interests whose main agenda seems to be to divide – no matter what the cost - in order to rule," Archbishop said in a communication released to the press here.
Without directly referring to the disputed structure which led to the problem, he has said,"Illegalities are to be dealt with by the authorities concerned, and not by extremists. The soul of justice is truth."
The Archbishop has said that a lie often parades itself as truth, but, in reality, it is always motivated by selfishness and by a craving to manipulate and control.
"And this craving takes one of its most heinous forms when it strikes at and thrives on religious sensibilities. Some political systems in our land offer a bitter illustration of this," he stated.
The Archbishop has appealed to all the concerned to refrain from such aggressive confrontations that only fragment and cause so much damage to our society.
"Let us, instead, join hands to build a better tomorrow for our land, through our commitment to harmony and peace and towards fostering a civilization of love and a culture of peace," he said.
