Embrace Sir Syed's ideals, AMU told

Aligarh, Oct 4 (IANS): Teachers and students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) were Friday told to follow the ideals of its founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.

Eminent novelist and income tax commissioner S.M. Ashraf made the appeal while releasing a special issue of "Tahzibul Akhlaq", a literary magazine published by AMU.

Ashraf paid homage to Sir Syed for his "farsightedness, courage, humanity, honesty and vision" and for realizing the need for modern education for Muslims.

He urged teachers and students to uphold the "great ideals of Sir Syed (such as) discipline, righteousness, honesty, humility and traditional and cultural identity".
