Gujarat leader to head Congress' minority department

New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS): The Congress Saturday appointed Khurshid Ahmed Saiyed, a party leader from Gujarat, as the new chairman of its minority department, a statement said.

According to the statement from Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi, Saiyed's name was cleared by party chief Sonia Gandhi. He replaces Imran Kidwai.

Party sources said the appointment of Saiyed, an advocate and a general secretary in the Gujarat party unit, comes after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to the state and his intensive feedback sessions with party workers.
