Gurgaon, Oct 22 (IANS): Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal was admitted to a private hospital here after he was found to be suffering from dengue, an official said Tuesday.

After confirmation that he was suffering from dengue, Mittal was admitted to Fortis Hospital here.

"He (Mittal) had fever since Saturday but came to work. On Monday, his condition deteriorated and he was hospitalized after confirmation of dengue," a senior police officer told IANS.

"His blood platelet count was below 45,000," the officer said.

According to a doctor at the civil hospital here, a healthy human has a platelet count above 1.5 lakh but even one lakh is considered normal.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda visited the hospital to enquire about Mittal's condition.

Fortis Hospital authorities refused to comment on Mittal's condition, saying they cannot share personal information about a patient.

In Gurgaon, four deaths due to dengue have been reported this season. Some other deaths, claimed to be because of dengue, were not confirmed by the state health department.

"Over 600 cases of suspected dengue were tested and more than 250 were confirmed," district malaria officer (DMO) Mahender Gupta told IANS.
