Karkala, Mar 25: A house belonging to one Gubbi Harijana was heavily damaged in a sudden spell of lightning, thunder and showers that hit Depputte in Ajekar-Marne near here on Friday March 24 evening.

Fortunately, there was no one present in the house situated in the Manjushri colony. The force of lighting hit was such that besided pulling out the electrical wiring of the house and leaving the house wall in crashed condition, it went through the toilet and further down to damage the garden. Several plants have been uprooted.

The total loss has been estimated at Rs 12,000. Officials and elected representatives have visited the spot.

Udupi: Heavy rains, combined with lightning and thunder has been reported from Perdur and Hiriadka in the district on Friday evening.

The flash rain lasted about 15 minutes, resulting in water flowing on the roads, putting normal life in disarray for a short while.
