Mangalore: Centenary celebration held at Pavur mission

Mangalore, Oct 28: The mission that was set up by Fr Camissa, a century ago was celebrated on October 23. It is the only church in the world celebrating mass in Tulu language.

Archbishop Bernad Moras and Bishop of Mangalore Aloysius Paul and Bishop of Beltangady Laurence were welcomed to the celebration with great love.The inauguration of the cemetery chapel and at the grotto of Our lady followed by a jubilee mass.

The Archbishop of Bangalore Bernad Moras was the main celebrant. Concelebrents were Bishop Aloysius Paul and Bishop Laurence along with 36 priests, religious and faithful.

The members sang hymns in memory of the a Jesuit missionary Fr Camissa. The museum of Fr Alexander Camissa and the tomb recieved special blessings.

The students of Don Bosco English medium performed a prayer dance followed by the inauguration by the Bishop at the new shrine in memory of Fr Camissa.

After mass the felicitation for the religious who worked at Pavur was held. The apostolic carmel congregations first pioneer Sr Mary Francis Therese was honoured by Bishop of mangalore. The other sisters were the superiors who served at the Seva Ashram convent Sr Eula, Sr Maria Magdalena, Sr Dulcia, and Sr Avita; the provincial superior Sr Linette was present for this function and she was also honored.

A felicitation for the priests who served at the parish was also held. Fr Thomas Myladore, Fr Mathias Pereira, Fr James D'souza were honoured  by Archbishop of Bangalore.

Fr Aloysius Santiago, the parish priest was felicitated for organising this parish programme. The apostolic Carmel sisters and Silesian priests and the Ursline sisters who render their services towards the parish and the school were felicitated.

The political leaders were also felicitated at the centenary.

A cultural program was held in the evening with a drama in tulu  'Yan pande and panodchi' 

After the program refreshments were served.
