Udupi, Mar 29: A lorry carrying bitumen from MRPL in Mangalore to Belgaum went out of the driver's control and overturned at Katapadi-Tenkaltota near here on national highway 17. The mishap occurred around 2 am in the early hours of Tuesday.

The load of tar liberally - and literally - flowed down the drain when the lorry turned turtle and got struck between two large trees by the side of the highway. The contents leaked in full force splashing the entire place with thick black coating.

The value of the bitumen gone in waste is estimated at Rs 2.5 lac. However, the three occupants of the lorry had a providential, unscathed escape.
