Kundapur, Nov 10: "Government treasury had suffered a loss of Rs 140 to 200 crore by giving tenders instead of giving uniforms to school children under the Sarvashikshana Abhiyana," said education minister Kimmane Ratnakar during his visit to Annegudde Temple here on Friday November 8.

"According to rules one pair of uniform has been distributed through the SDMC of every school. But the previous government in violation of the law distributed the uniforms by calling for tenders. This led to the economic loss and hence the present government had to manage the situation by deciding to put temporary halt on educational tours and various other programmes, he said.

"There are plans to develop a model school in every taluk with the help of public. Already the process of cost estimation is under way. From January this project will be implemented. This programme aims to provide alternative education to private schools," he said.

When reporters questioned him about the alloting teachers duties other than educational, Ratnakar said, "An order has already been issued to officers concerned that teachers should not be assigned for works apart from teaching."

On this occasion temple priest honoured the minister. Temple administrator K Sooryanarayana Uppadhyaya, chief priest Lakshminarayana Uppadhyaya, Temple manger Anand Urula, Vadhiraj Bhat, Uday Kumar were present.
