AAP seeks hike in Griha Adhar aid to Rs 3,000, demands CM’s stand

Margao, Oct 17: The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) women’s wing on Friday led a delegation to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, seeking an official clarification on the government’s stand on increasing the monthly Griha Adhar assistance to Rs 3,000 without any terms and conditions.

The delegation, led by Goa AAP women’s wing president Mamata Maben, alleged that a BJP woman MLA who had sought a similar hike, citing Arvind Kejriwal’s guarantee, was shouted at by BJP national general secretary BL Santosh during a high-level meeting and told to leave the party.

The delegation questioned whether Chief Minister Sawant endorsed such conduct and demanded clarity on the government’s position regarding the proposed increase.

AAP also demanded that the Griha Adhar scheme be extended to every woman.

The party said rising inflation had made it increasingly difficult for families to manage household expenses, with electricity and water bills, medical and school costs, petrol and LPG prices putting additional pressure on households already struggling with unemployment and low incomes.

Questioning whether the BJP believed that prices had remained unchanged just as Griha Adhar assistance had, the party urged the government to learn from AAP-led governments on delivering public welfare.

The AAP women’s wing appealed to Sawant not to take women for granted and called on him to clarify his stand on increasing the assistance to Rs 3,000 per month.
