  • Government yields to boycott of SSLC valuation

Bangalore, Apr 3: In view of the boycott to SSLC valuation, the Government today decided to pay Rs. 200 as ex-gratia everymonth to the Government high school teachers.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the State Cabinet this morning as the teachers all over the State boycotted valuation of SSLC answer scripts.

The Government's decision will lead to an additional burden of Rs. 22 crore annually on the State's exchequer.

Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, who also holds Finance portfolio, will announce the decision formally in the State Assembly later in the day.

Teachers march

In the meanwhile, nearly 1,000 high school teachers of Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts, who boycotted valuation work, took out processions from seven valuation centres in Mysore this morning pressing their demand for ex-gratia on par with primary school teachers and other Government employees.

The teachers from the valuation centres gathered at St. Joseph School in Jayalakshmipuram and marched to the Deputy Commissioner's Office for submitting a memorandum.

The teachers raised slogans such as Victory to teachers; Let the teachers' demand be fulfilled; Victory to the teachers' struggle and others.

G. Shankar, Treasurer of the High School Teachers' Association, led the march along with the Association's Mysore District President Lingegowda and Cha-marajanagar District President Basavaraju.
