AAP leader offers to opt out of poll after sting operation

New Delhi, Nov 22 (PTI): Aam Aadmi Party leader Shazia Ilmi Thursday night offered to withdraw her candidature from Delhi assembly elections after a media portal claimed to have done a sting operation on her and the party's other senior leaders and alleged they were involved in "raising funds through illegal means."

"It is an extremely important fight for AAP. But because of the underhand shoddy sting operation, I will not allow my party's image to be sullied. I offer to withdraw my candidature and not contest elections until and unless my name is cleared", Ilmi said.

The sting operation, conducted by Media Sarkar, alleged several leaders of AAP, who were contacted for their help in recovery of money from individuals and getting land deals done, readily agreed to extend their support in return for donations in cash to AAP.

AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal dismissed the sting operation as a "conspiracy" against his party but said it will not compromise on the issue of corruption.

"We will not spare anyone if found guilty," he said, adding he knew who were behind it as BJP and Congress have been "routed" by AAP.

The video purportedly showed a reporter meeting Ilmi posing as a representative of a company and sought her help to teach a lesson to a rival company.

Initially, Ilmi refused to help the reporter without legal documents but later allegedly agreed to help her even without documents when the reporter offered her donations in cash.

Ilmi is also shown in the video allegedly telling the reporter that the party accepts donations in cash.

The sting operations were also done on AAP leader Kumar Vishwas and candidates from Kondli (Manoj Kumar), Sangam Vihar (Dinesh Mohaniya), Okhla (Irfan Ullah Khan), Rohtas Nagar (Mukesh Hooda), Deoli (Prakash) and Palam (Bhawna Gaur).

Reacting to allegations of funds misuse by AAP, BJP leader V K Malhotra said the sting operation has "exposed AAP totally".

"Earlier also Anna Hazare condemned them for taking all this money which was collected at Hazare's agitation for election purpose.

"Elections are in Delhi but money is coming from USA, UK and other places. If they take money from outside and contest election in Delhi, then tomorrow they can sell India's interest also by taking foreign money," said Malhotra.

Ilmi is a candidate of AAP from RK Puram assembly constituency.

After the sting operation, AAP convened an emergency meeting of its political affairs committee which decided to take action against the candidates within 24 hours after going through the CD of the sting operation.

"We will decide in 24 hours on the issue after going through content of the CD," Aam Admi Party leader Yogendra Yadav said after the meeting.

    Dear Fellow readers,
The sting operation is done by India news channel through a press conference at Constitution Club, which club can be booked only either by a Minister or by MP or MLA. The CEO of India News Channel is Mr.Kartikeya Sharma brother Mr. Manu Sharma, who is in jail for murdering Jessica Lal and he is son of Mr. Vinod Sharma, a Congress party MLA.

Further, as per latest news, Mr.Anuranjan Jha, who carried out the sting, refuses to provide the full, raw video footage to help AAP investigations. Why? Does this not also raise questions on the motive of the sting?

Got to take things seriously some time. We have seen both Congress and BJP Governance. People keep condemning both or one of them, depending upon their political alliance and maturity. More than this we could not do anything !
Now if someone has come forward on an issue based politics, why don't we try at least ? Instead simply passing comments will not help, unless we love corrupt people and corrupt system.

Dirty games played by Congress-BJP combine. AAP should win in Delhi. Congress should be thrown out of power in Delhi and BJP should not be allowed to grow in Delhi. It's pathetic to see the dirty games by these two national political parties which are very dangerous for the growth of India.

Starting a new party and contesting elections does not happen for free. It requires a lot money and the money was collected by certain 'sim sale' and donations during Ram Leela Maidan rally. However, when a huge amount of approx. 200 Crore got collected, Anna asked Kejriwal for 60% of it to be deposited in Anna's social work fund. Kejriwal did not want to part with the money hence he recorded Anna's demand to deposit 60% of it is the said account. Thereafter, using the record, he started blackmailing Anna saying he will expose the image Anna created in common people's mind of a Sadhu-like personality. Fearing this, Anna distanced himself from Kejriwal.

Well, there is a adage in Kannada 'Hana Nodidare Hena baayi buduttade' - Kejriwal is not a saint either. Calling for an end to corruption, he himself involved in a bigger corrupt system. If Indians vote for AAP hoping for corruption free governance, there is going to be a bigger disappointment.

Lydia..Anna's intentions were clear. He was interested only in sitting in dharnas and fasting. It doesn't serve any purpose. I appreciate Kejriwal and his associates who formed AAP. Without joining politics, you cannot fight with corrupt system. Arvind Kejriwal is qualified person and his team consists of intellectuals. They are fed up of bad governance by Congress and BJP. AAP is the voice of the common man. You may be blindly supporting congress but Congress is very dangerous for India's growth. Similarly BJP too is very dangerous. We have seen their governance in Karnataka. Sting operations have become a big thamasha now and congress is expert in that. Congress used Tehelka to expose Bangaru Laxman. Now you must be knowing what is going on with Tehelka. So better you get your facts right. Simply writing on this forum doesn't serve any purpose. Truth will be out soon..

AAP do not lose your patience. This is the work of the rival parties. They are aware that Congi & BJP will be wiped out from the Map of Delhi. Appeal to the people of Delhi to give a chance to AAP. See their potential. What they will do to the people & for the people. I have a hope that AAP will fulfill the dreams of the people.
