Bantwal, Nov 26: A town municipal council (TMC) member sat in dharna against his own colleagues in the municipality protesting their inaction over an issue concerning illegal construction.
Bantwal municipal council member of ward No 4, Devadas Shetty sat in dharna outside the municipal office on Monday, November 25, protesting against municipal inaction towards his written complaint at the municipal office.
He was protesting against a person who had built an unauthorized minor bridge across a gutter beside a bus stand at Kotramanagandi to take mud to his land.
Though Devadas Shetty had complained about it to the municipality both orally and in writing, the officials had remained indifferent. Shetty, unhappy with the municipality’s attitude, all of a sudden sat on dharna outside the office.
Senior members Govinda Prabhu, Bhasker Tailor, BJP local president G Ananda, chief secretary Ramdas, vice=president Purusha Salian, former municipal president Dinesh Bhandary, former member Suresh Kulal etc who came to know of the developments, accompanied Devadas in the protest.
Meanwhile, municipal president Vasanthi Chandappa and member Mohammed Nandarabettu tried to pacify Devadas Shetty. After sitting for three hours for his demand, Shetty withdrew the protest after chief executive officer gave in writing that steps will be taken to ensure that no person enters the said property without municipality's permission and a compound wall will be built for the property after discussions during the next meeting.
