Mangalore, Apr 15: Based on a tip off, a person said to have murdered his aunt seven years ago, was arrested by the Pandeshwar police near Lady Goschen Hospital here, on Friday April 14.
The accused Somaiah, who was absconding ever since the murder, is said to have been working in various hotels in Udupi and Kerala all these years.
As reported by the police, Somaiah who was staying with his uncle Ramesh and aunt Anasooya, had one day tried to rape Anasooya, when Ramesh was away. When Anasooya protested, Somaiah hit her with an iron rod, as a result which Anasooya died on the spot.
Jayalakshmi, Anasooya’s sister, who was an eyewitness to the murder, had then filed a complaint with the police in this regard. However, the police were unable to nab him all these years.
