Mangalore : 'Souhardha Nagar II' - Second phase under way..

Souhardha Nagar II needs helping hands of good Samaritans to complete Phase II

Daijiworld Media Network

Mangalore, Dec 4: Owning a house of their own is a dream for most people in our country. It is one of the basic needs following food and clothing.  However, there are good Samaritans like Eric Correa who has been working zealously to make many people realize their dreams of owning their own house, through the Souhardha Foundation started by him.  It may be recalled that in an unprecedented gesture Eric Correa had single-handedly contributed 34 houses to the deserving poor in January 2012, completely free of cost in Padumarnadu village of Moodbidri.  Located in 2.25 acres of pristine and scenic beauty on a table top hill Souhardha Nagar I has been a dream come true where people of diverse communities and religions live in peace, harmony thus living true to its name of promoting harmony.

Eric and his team were overwhelmed by the positive response from the beneficiaries and the general public for their good gesture and having drawn inspiration from this little gesture they decided to go continue their benign act of giving a roof to the roofless and that is how Souhardha Naagar II was started in the very same function where Souhardha Nagar I was inaugurated.  Within eight months Eric and his team was able to complete 31 houses of Souhardha Nagar II phase I and keys were handed over to the beneficiaries in April this year in a grand public function.

Though Eric Correa had started his work of gifting houses to the deserving poor on a silent note, his gesture came in for appreciation from all quarters.  His work has not only won the appreciation of the beneficiaries but has also inspired philanthropists and benefactors who extended their heartfelt support   both moral and financial for this 2nd project.  Souhardha Nagar II is coming up in about 2.77 acres of land wherein 64 houses of 450 sq feet each are built in two phases.  Each house will comprise a bedroom-hall-kitchen costing about Rs. 3.05 lakhs (excluding the cost of land) will be handed over   to the beneficiaries who have been carefully chosen by a committee, from among a pile of applicants.

The first phase of Souhardha Nagar II project was inaugurated in April this year by handing over keys of the houses to the 31 beneficiaries in a public function. The goodwill shown by Eric has certainly come as blessings to hundreds of poor people who earlier could not dream of owning a home of their own.   By his generosity Eric has really demonstrated that if there is a will to help others there is certainly a way.  The residents of both these colonies have expressed their gratitude to Eric and other sponsors who have contributed their mite in giving their dream home.

It has been eight months since work on the remaining 32 house of the second phase has begun.  The Foundation is keen to hand over the houses to the beneficiaries by April 2014, as promised during the inauguration of the 1st phase.  During the inauguration of the 1st phase of the II project Eric Correa who is the brain behind the project, had sought generous help  from likeminded people so that the foundation is able to carry on the noble task of providing a roof over the head of the needy people. He had said that every drop would count and their munificence would go a long way in his desire to provide shelter to the needy.

Souharda Foundation has begun the work of the 2nd phase of the project with the same earnestness and enthusiasm with which the earlier works were completed. But somehow, the work is not progressing in the pace with which it should which is largely due to paucity of funds.  The Foundation is in dire need of financial help so that it can carry on the work and complete the 2nd phase of the project by the stipulated date.  The second phase of the project comprises 32 houses and the beneficiaries are keenly waiting for their dream home.

If likeminded people who want to lighten up the lives of the poor and needy they can join hands with Souharda Foundation by contributing in whatever little way they can.  Their help would go a long way in financing a home fully or partially for the homeless.  If the efforts of one man (Eric Correa) could make such massive difference to the lives of so many needy people, a group of people joining hands together for a noble cause can really make wonders and can bring joy to hundreds  of homes. Eric has been a true philanthropist who has led from the front.    The Foundation would gratefully acknowledge whatever generous and timely  help it can get from good Samaritans.

The Souhardha Foundation and the beneficiaries will be highly indebted to the contributors whatever might be the amount they gift be it small or big.

Souhardha Foundation is a Trust started and managed by Eric Correa with his friends Louis J Pinto, Titus A Noronha, John L Dsouza and Fr J B Saldanha as its trustees.

Eric was kind enough to take both of us around to see his first project at 'Souharda Nagar' where he has built and donated 34 houses for the poor. "ONE SHOULD SEE TO BELIEVE" and experience the gratitude we saw on the faces of the beneficiaries!!! Some situations brought tears to our eyes. This development and the works impressed and inspired us to contribute to this venture. We strongly suggest that the generous and benevolent people should come forward to help this young, strong- minded and selfless soul to carry on his philanthropic task he has under taken to help the down trodden , in whatever way you can. Three cheers to you Eric and blessings on your family. May God Bless you and your entire team abundantly.

Great work by Eric Correa and his friends. Unless this colony is maintained (buildings and surrounding roads), this area would be a Ghetto soon

Hats off to you Mr.Eric Correa. Owning a own house is not a easy one and also it is a blessing and also a dream where most of us don't have.
A good Samaritan like you gifting houses to the needy is a great job. We pray that your project may not delay and go on with full swing. We would like to contribute a small amount of Rs.30,000/- towards Souhardha Nagar. We hope this will inspire each one of us to contribute whatever little within our limits and should not hesitate though a small amount. God bless you Mr.Eric Correa.

It is nice to see that a few good Samaritan's have come forward and pledged their support, but I feel we need many more of such kind hearted ones. The ball has started rolling and I think it is very crucial for us to keep it rolling. It is a dream turned to reality for many who will now have a roof over their head. I feel we the society should join hands with Mr. Eric Correa and not think that this project is his alone. He definitely needs our support as mentioned by him. I pledge and an amount of Rs. 50,000/-

Great work done by Mr. Eric Correa and party. God will surely bless you all for your wonderful work. Definitely not a small project and hope the project does not delay or stop for lack of funds as mentioned in your write up. Personally I do not own a house of my own but your generosity and concern for the poor and the needy has prompted me to contribute Rs. 50,000/- which will be transferred to the said account next week.

Souhardha Nagar is a blessing to many and should certainly be an inspiration to many more as here is a very good opportunity to be a part of others happiness. Contributions may be small or big but the happiness of the ultimate receiver will be an everlasting one and their blessings will always be bestowed on the giver. While I have no words of appreciation for the good work started by Mr. Eric Correa, it is very sad that he could not get the support and cooperation from others which he very much expected. At this point of time I would like to be a small part of this project of giving life to others by contributing a sum of Rs. 1 lakh towards Souhardha Nagar. I hope this could be an inspiration for others to contribute whatever little they can which is within their means.

Giving home to the homeless is one of the most charitable act. It is heartening to know that Souharda Foundation, under the leadership of Eric Correa, is doing wonderful job of giving roof over head to the less fortunate. We feel proud to be part of this mission and donate one house, in memory of our beloved father Stevan Rodrigues. Wish there could be more people doing it, so that homeless be sheltred. Wish success to all your endeavors

    Dear Mr. Eric Corea,
The Holy Bible clearly says about acquiring wealth: I quote Psalms 39:6 SURELY EVERY MAN WALKETH IN A VAIN SHEW: SURELY THEY ARE DISQUIETED IN VAIN: HE HEAPETH UP RICHES, AND KNOWETH NOT WHO SHALL GATHER THEM. Unquote.
You are a paradigm to many rich, wealthy people heap up wealth and riches for themselves and you are a hope to homeless as a GOOD SAMARITAIN.
May the sincere, kind polite and the excellent works carried out by you inspire a paradigm to many in the society to come up and putup harmony irrespective of caste creed colour and religion.
    My sincere prayers for you:
“The LORD bless you and keep you
The LORD make His face shine upon you,
    And be gracious to you
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
    And give you peace.”’
    Amen.
