United Friends Trust, Bejai strengthens legacy of service with launch of housing project

Media Release

Mangaluru, May 2: Continuing its long-standing commitment to social welfare, United Friends Trust has started its ambitious housing initiative, United Homes, aimed at providing shelter and dignity to the homeless and underprivileged. This initiative marks a significant step forward for the organization, which traces its roots back decades to United Friends Bejai, a group that began as a youth-driven community movement. What started with local sports activities and neighbourhood engagement has gradually evolved into a full-fledged social service organization dedicated to the structured uplifting of the needy.

Over the years, United Friends Trust has built a formidable reputation in Mangaluru through a wide array of charitable efforts. The organization has become a household name by balancing cultural preservation with urgent social needs, from organizing the popular Konkani comedy shows Hasyanso Paavs in association with Daijiworld TV to conducting life-saving blood donation drives. Their portfolio of service extends to supporting the education of underprivileged students, providing medical assistance to those in financial distress, and leading environmental initiatives such as tree plantation drives. These consistent efforts over several decades have impacted numerous lives, reflecting a deep-rooted philosophy of service, inclusivity, and active community participation.

Building on this legacy, the United Homes project seeks to address the pressing challenge of homelessness by creating safe and dignified living spaces. Construction is currently underway, and the members of United Friends are putting forth their full effort to complete the project before the onset of the monsoon season. While the project has been funded by generous donors, patrons, and like-minded individuals who care deeply for society, the funds received thus far are not yet sufficient to reach the finish line.

This project is fuelled by the vision and generosity of Michael D’Souza, a prominent NRI businessman and philanthropist. With an initial donation of Rs 20 lac and ongoing commitment, his support has been instrumental in fast-tracking the construction.

As the project enters its final stage, United Friends is seeking support from the general public to ensure these homes are ready to shelter the needy before the rains arrive. This crowd-funding effort represents a milestone in the organization’s history of service and will leave a lasting impact on the lives of the beneficiaries.
