New Delhi, Dec 6 (IANS): A court here Friday allowed Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, charge sheeted in a case of alleged forgery of a letter sent to the prime minister, to go abroad for a sport-related event.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge V.K. Gupta allowed Tytler to attend International Kurash Association's (IKA) directing committee meeting, IKA's Ordinary Congress Meeting and the ninth World Kurash Senior Championship in Turkey from Dec 11 to Jan 1. Kurash is the Central Asian style of wrestling.

Tytler has been asked to furnish security of Rs.5 lakh.

"In the totally of facts and circumstances, application is allowed and the accused Tytler is permitted to visit Turkey from Dec 11 to Jan 1," the court said.

The court has directed Tytler not to tamper with evidence and submit the addresses of his stay along with telephone numbers. The court has asked him to appear in court on the date fixed in the case on return to India.

The CBI had, however, opposed the plea saying that he is an influential person having political background and there is possibility that he may not return to India.

According to IKA website, Tytler is its chairman.

The case was filed on a complaint of the then Minister of State for Home Ajay Maken that a forged letter on his letterhead was written to the prime minister by businessman Abhishek Verma seeking easing of business visa norms in 2009.

Tytler and Verma were charge sheeted under the IPC in the case for the offence of attempting to cheat and under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Tytler was granted bail on Sep 30 while Verma is under judicial custody after arrest in connection with various cases lodged against him by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate.

The CBI has alleged Tytler had "actively connived" with Verma to cheat a Chinese telecom firm and the Congress leader had first shown a "fake and forged" letter to the company's officials, claiming it was written by Maken to the prime minister.
