BJP edges past Congress in close fight in Chhattisgarh


Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Dec 8 (IANS): The opposition Congress was giving a tough fight to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chhattisgarh on Sunday, but the BJP was able to edge past in 46 seats against the Congress' 39.

Both parties were in a neck-and-neck race as trends were available for 87 of the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly after initial rounds of counting. The half-way mark is 45 seats.

As per the official website of the Chhattisgarh chief electoral officer, of the trends available for 31 seats at 10 a.m., the BJP was leading in 19 seats and the Congress in 12.

The BJP had 50 seats in the outgoing assembly against the 38 of the Congress.
