Charge sheet filed against Tunda in 1997 Delhi blasts case

New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS): A Delhi court Friday took cognisance of a charge sheet filed against top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda in connection with the 1997 Sadar Bazar blasts here in which several people were injured.

Delhi Police filed a supplementary charge sheet before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Amit Bansal.

"During interrogation, 72-year-old Tunda had told the investigators that he was involved in the conspiracy which led to two blasts - (in) Sadar Bazar and Qutab Road on Oct 1, 1997," the police said in the charge sheet.

Police have booked Tunda under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon), 307 (attempt to murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police contended that two other accused in the case had earlier disclosed that the bomb blasts were carried out at the behest of Tunda.

However, one of the accused Mohammad Shakeel alias Hamza was acquitted on April 1997 while the other accused Mohammad Amir was discharged from the case on Apr 26, 2001.

Tunda is presently in judicial custody in connection with various cases lodged against him.
