Bahrain diplomat booked for molestation, verbal abuse

Mumbai, Dec 25 (PTI): Amid the row over Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade's arrest in the US, a Bahrainian envoy has been booked here for allegedly molesting the woman manager of his housing society but not arrested due to the diplomatic immunity he enjoys, police said today.

A case has been registered against Consul General of Bahrain, Mohammed Abdulaziz Al Khaja, for molesting and verbally abusing on December 9 the manager of the south Mumbai society, police said.

In her complaint, the 49-year-old victim alleged that Khaja had lost his cool after one of the elevators of the building was shut for repairs on December 9.

He was slamming the doors of the elevator when she saw him and requested him to maintain his cool as the elevator was under repair. However, Khaja did not stop and even ransacked her office in a fit of rage, police said quoting the complainant.

The victim also alleged that Khaja had touched her and used abusive language during the commotion, police said.

She approached the Malabar Hill police which conducted a preliminary inquiry and registered a complaint.

However, police did not rush to put Khaja behind bars as he enjoys diplomatic immunity.

Police said Khaja allegedly tried to create ruckus again on December 20 in the building.

The woman said she has been working in the society for the last 10 years. The Bahranian diplomat has been living there for the last five years.

Khaja has been booked under sections 354 (molestation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code, Malabar Hill police station senior inspector Vinay Bagade said, declining to divulge further details.

If the allegation is true, the police should arrest him through proper procedures and not in manner as was done to our diplomat by the US. International law on diplomatic immunity now needs to be changed. Foreign diplomats must be stripped of their diplomatic immunity if they are found involved in any offensive acts or if they create any law and order problem in the host country.

Problem with Indian police is, they don't have the guts to arrest even a goonda from small galli. If such a thing had happened in Bahrain, which Indian Diplomat would have been spared? In the middle East, even touching a lady is very big offence. Even if you touch a small child of say 8 to 10 years, you will be branded as a child molester. Touching a woman is our of the question. The treatment given to any Indian in the middle east for such offence can be so severe that one does not even think of committing such an offense. Arrest this culprit and put him in for at least 10 years.

It is the clear evidence from the incident how the woman can miss use the law in India when man fights with woman in anger and Indian police also apply whatever sections all available in charge sheet. It is really happen in my life when one of my person owe to me money and when I asked to return the money his wife come forward and told me she know how to lodge the complaint if I ask money. .After that I did't ask money. There should be punishment for police also for registering wrong cases and wrong sections.

Diplomat or door mat arrest him if the allegation is found to be true.
It seems in the first scene that it was the talk fight between these two in regard to the issue of elevators & then turned as molestation case to strengthen the case.

Normally men can't be provoked sexually when they are fighting with women, only anger will be there, not sexual desire, this is natural & none is above on that.

Proper investigation & CCTV coverage(if there was)only can bring the truth out.

If found guilty strict action must be taken.
