Protest near BJP president's Delhi house

New Delhi, Jan 1 (IANS): Over 200 youths, who claimed to be members of the NSUI and the Youth Congress, Wednesday staged a protest near BJP president Rajnath Singh's residence here, police said. The NSUI said it had nothing to do with the protest.

The protestors marched towards Rajnath Singh's Ashoka Road residence in the heart of the national capital, but were stopped by police a few hundred metres away.

"The protest started around 12:30 p.m. and continued for more than one-and-half hours," a police offcial said. Around 50 protestors were detained.

Police used batons to chase away the protestors.

However, a spokesperson for the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) denied any involvement of the Congress-affiliated students' organisation in the protest.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's national spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman condemned the protest.

"We condemn this protest. This unruly protest only shows Congress has no answers. Their hypocrisy has been exposed. How can they talk about removing corruption when every state they rule have corruption cases," she said.

The protest came a day after Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, Tuesday protested near Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's residence demanding removal of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who has been accused of graft.
