Equip police to tackle terrorism, cyber crime: President

New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS): Police forces in India must be equipped to tackle different forms of terrorism and increasing dimensions of crime, including cyber crimes, President Pranab Mukherjee said Friday.

"In present times, the forms of terrorism have changed and dimensions of crime have increased. Cyber crimes have also become a big threat. Police forces must therefore be well equipped to face these challenges effectively," he said in his address at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to a group of 133 Indian Police Service trainee officers that included 20 women.

Mukherjee acknowledged that the officers' job was multifarious and their conduct and behaviour was a reflection not only of the police force but of the entire administration.

"You would face many challenges in the service of the motherland. These include challenges pertaining to protecting social harmony, maintaining national integrity and combating divisive forces etc," he said.
